EU Investment
Policy Overview

Cohesion Policy is the EU’s main investment policy. It targets all regions and cities in the EU to support job creation, business competitiveness, economic grown, sustainable development and improvements to citizens’ quality of life. 

Ireland’s Cohesion Funds are:

European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)

Supports economic growth, job creation, and regional development by funding infrastructure, innovation, and environmental projects across EU regions.

Just Transition Fund
(EU JTF)

Supports regions most affected by the transition to a climate-neutral economy, helping them diversify their economies, create jobs, and reduce social and economic disparities.

European Social Fund +
(ESF+)

Invests in people, supporting jobs, education, social inclusion, and reducing poverty across Europe.

Ireland’s Cohesion Policy Investement Strategy also includes:

European Maritime Fisheries & Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF)

Supports sustainable fisheries, aquaculture, maritime policies, while also promoting the blue economy and environmental conservation.

 Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF)

Helps manage migration, support asylum seekers, integrate newcomers, and improve border control.

Internal Security Fund
(ISF)

Strengthens security by funding projects that combat crime, terrorism, cyber threats, and improve border protection.

The Southern Regional Assembly is the Managing Authority for the ERDF Southern, Eastern and Midland Regional Programme 2021–2027.
