Who We Are

The Southern Regional Assembly is one of three regional assemblies
in Ireland, acting as a link between national government and the ten local authorities in our region. We coordinate and promote economic growth, infrastructure improvements, and community development across the six counties of Munster—Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, and Waterford—and three counties in South Leinster: Carlow, Kilkenny, and Wexford. The Assembly comprises 40 staff members and 35 elected representatives who advocate for the region’s citizens.

We have a statutory role in both the development and implementation of the Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy (RSES) for the Southern Region and in managing EU funding programmes. This means we play a critical role in transferring and delivering national and European policies and programmes to regional and local level.

Our efforts focus on balanced, sustainable development to enhance the prosperity and quality of life for the Southern Region’s 1.7 million residents.

Through our many programmes, projects, policies and initiatives, we foster opportunity and possibility to ensure the Southern Region is the most creative, innovative, liveable and greenest region. 

Our responsibilities include: 

Leading the Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy (RSES) 

Developing and guiding the implementation of our strategic plans.

Managing ERDF Programmes 

Supporting and overseeing European Regional Development Fund investment to promote balanced regional development. 

Aligning Policy Goals 

Connecting local, regional, national, and EU policies through comprehensive regional planning.
