About KT Boost

The €33.4 million Enterprise Ireland KT Boost programme supports Innovation Offices in Irish Universities and Technological Universities (TUs), including those awaiting legal status. Co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the EU under the ERDF, it focuses on building skills, enhancing operational quality, and driving research commercialisation across HEIs.

By funding staff and operational activities, the programme advances knowledge transfer, IP management, licensing, and spin-off creation. Its key goals are to strengthen the TU sector, boost knowledge transfer outcomes, and promote consistent operational excellence nationwide.

Programme Outcomes

The programme aims to:

  • Accelerate the emergence of High Potential Start-ups (HPSUs) from research spin-outs;
  • Increase the number of intellectual property (IP) licences issued to companies;
  • Boost the volume of research collaboration agreements with businesses; and
  • Enhance the quality and efficiency of Innovation Office advisory services through improved procedures for streamlined and simplified transactions.

Enterprise Ireland is the Irish government’s enterprise development agency. They invest in and support the development of Irish-owned companies on their journey to achieving greater scale and to become global leaders in their field. This provides a platform for strong economic growth and creating and sustaining jobs in communities around the country.

Open Calls:

Enterprise Ireland has announced a call for applications to the Knowledge Transfer (KT) Boost Programme for funding in accordance with the KT Boost guidelines and the application form. Please advise if you wish to avail of content in an accessible format. KT Boost is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Regional Programmes 2021-27, and as such all applicants must comply with the relevant EU regulations as outlined in the guidelines and application form. Failure to do so will render the application ineligible for funding. KT Boost in the Southern Region and the Eastern & Midland Region of Ireland is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union under the ERDF Southern, Eastern & Midland Regional Programme 2021-2027 and will support the following Policy Objective and Specific Objective. 

Applications must be submitted within the specified deadlines for consideration.

Policy Objective 1:

A more competitive and smarter Europe by promoting innovative and smart economic transformation and regional ICT connectivity.

Specific Objective:

Developing and enhancing research and innovation capacities and the uptake of advanced technologies

Eligibility of Applications: 

The Programme is open to applications from existing Technological Universities (incl. designate technological universities) and Universities. Eligible Institutions: Technological University Dublin, Munster Technological University, South East Technological University, Technological University of the Shannon: Midland Midwest, University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Maynooth University, University College Cork and University of Limerick

Total Amount of Support: 

The total budget for supports available for the four-year programme is €33.4 million, of which €12.37million is co-financed by the ERDF. The ERDF co-financing is broken down as €9.17 million for beneficiaries located in the Southern, Eastern and Midland Region with an additional €18.88m coming from the State. 

Call Start/ End Dates: 

The call opens on 23rd February 2023. The deadline for applications is 12pm on 24th March 2023. Applications received after this time will not be eligible. The application should include an electronic copy (MS Word, not pdf) signed by the relevant persons in the host institution.
