Priority – 01

Priority 1 aims to support activity to strengthen research, technology, development and innovation in the Southern & Eastern regions. Approximately €43.3 million of the Programme budget (50% ERDF/ 50% national) is allocated to Priority 1 objectives.

Objectives:

  • To increase the level of research taking place in the Southern & Eastern regions with company engagement by supplying applied research,
  • To increase the commercialisation of research by the higher education institutions in the region.

Result Indicators:

  • Number of industry partners engaged with funded research centres
  • Annual number of licenses resulting from regional research

Implementation Schemes:

  • Research Centres Programme: Develop world-leading research centres aligned with Ireland’s 14 priority research areas. (Intermediate Body: Science Foundation Ireland)
  • Spokes Programme: Expand existing SFI Research Centres with new research areas and collaborators. (Intermediate Body: Science Foundation Ireland)
  • Commercialisation Fund: Foster a research community focused on entrepreneurship and knowledge transfer. (Intermediate Body: Enterprise Ireland)
  • Innovation Partnership: Encourage companies to collaborate with research institutes to leverage key technologies. (Intermediate Body: Enterprise Ireland)
