The LGIU Ireland has published a new case study featuring the regeneration of Gorey Market House as a benchmark for adaptive reuse and inclusive community engagement. This historic early 19th century landmark, situated in the heart of a town with over 7,000 residents, is set to undergo a transformative restoration that breathes new life into its halls while carefully conserving its architectural and cultural heritage.
As Managing Authority for the Southern, Eastern & Midland Regional Programme 2021–2027, we are working closely with Wexford County Council to deliver this ambitious regeneration. The project has secured €7m in THRIVE funding, co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union, with a further €2m ring-fenced by Wexford County Council. Local councillors have been enthusiastic supporters, recognising the value of a shared civic and cultural space for Gorey and the wider North Wexford area.
Central to the redevelopment is its strict alignment with New European Bauhaus values. By integrating sustainability, inclusivity, and beauty, the project ensures that the design approach and community engagement process reflect the highest standards of modern European urban development.
