On 20th & 21st May 2026, the Southern Regional Assembly welcomed partners and stakeholders from across Europe to Cork for the TALENT4S Interregional Visit. The programme provided an opportunity for participants to exchange knowledge and explore innovative approaches to regional talent development, skills, innovation, and industry collaboration across the Southern Region of Ireland.
The visit brought together representatives from partner regions to share experiences, discuss policy approaches, and highlight good practices that support talent attraction, retention, and regional competitiveness. Throughout the programme, delegates engaged with regional stakeholders and explored how collaboration between industry, education, and public authorities is helping to strengthen sustainable regional development.
Exploring Regional Innovation and Industry in Ringaskiddy
A key highlight of the visit was a site visit to Ringaskiddy, one of Ireland’s leading hubs for industry, innovation, and international investment. Delegates had the opportunity to learn more about the region’s strong pharmaceutical, maritime, and industrial ecosystem, and the important role the area plays in supporting employment, skills development, and economic growth within the Southern Region.
Participants heard about the ongoing transformation and investment taking place across the wider Cork Harbour area, as well as the importance of strategic infrastructure, education partnerships, and workforce development in supporting regional resilience and competitiveness. The visit provided valuable insight into how place-based collaboration can support innovation-led regional growth.
Strengthening Interregional Collaboration
The TALENT4S Interregional Visit also included presentations, discussions, and networking sessions focused on addressing shared regional challenges and opportunities linked to talent development and demographic change. Delegates exchanged perspectives on how regions can better attract and retain skilled people, foster innovation ecosystems, and create opportunities for future generations.
Throughout the visit, participants reflected on the importance of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and integrated regional planning in supporting balanced territorial development across Europe. The Cork visit provided an important platform for partners to strengthen connections, share experiences, and contribute to the ongoing development of the TALENT4S project.
