The Shankill Shared Women’s Centre, funded under the 2014-2020 PEACE IV programme, has been shortlisted for the European Commission’s REGIOSTARS Public Choice Award. This €8.4 million purpose-built cross-community shared space was built on a former interface site in west Belfast between the Shankill and Falls Roads and opened in 2024.
The Centre showcases the transformative and long-lasting impact of strategic investment under successive PEACE programmes. The current €1.1 billion PEACEPLUS programme runs from 2021-2027, and is funding regional development projects across a diverse range of investment areas, including skills, education, transport, and socio-economic regeneration. PEACEPLUS is funded in partnership by the European Union, the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Government of Ireland, and the Northern Ireland Executive.
The REGIOSTARS Awards celebrate EU-funded projects that demonstrate excellence and new approaches in regional development. Voting is open until 15 October and you can register your vote for the Shankill Shared Women’s Centre at:
