The Southern Regional Assembly, Northern & Western Regional Assembly, Eastern & Midland Regional Assembly in partnership with Maynooth University and Ireland’s Interreg National Contact Points, hosted the “Interreg Synergies Workshop – Connecting Projects for Greater Impact” on 9 September 2026 at the European Parliament Liaison Office in Dublin. The event brought together 35 participants representing 16 Interreg projects from five different Interreg programmes, alongside programme bodies, Monitoring Committee members and national stakeholders.
The workshop was designed to strengthen collaboration between Irish organisations participating in Interreg projects, identify opportunities for knowledge exchange, and gather insights to help shape future Interreg programmes in Ireland. Participants took part in three themed breakout sessions focused on Digitalisation for Local Authorities, AI Solutions for SMEs, and Ecosystems for Offshore Renewable Energy.
The discussions highlighted significant opportunities for cooperation across projects, including the sharing of tools, expertise, stakeholder networks and project outputs. Participants identified potential for joint workshops, coordinated stakeholder engagement, shared communications activities and greater transfer of innovative approaches such as AI toolkits, mentoring programmes, data dashboards and training resources.
A particularly positive outcome of the day was the strong appetite for continued collaboration. Attendees proposed annual Interreg networking events and follow-up actions between projects working on similar challenges. The workshop also generated valuable recommendations for future programmes.
By bringing together projects from diverse sectors, the workshop demonstrated how stronger connections between Interreg initiatives can maximise impact, reduce duplication and help deliver more effective solutions for Ireland’s regions and communities.
