Celebrating Innovation and Collaboration: Highlights from the New European Bauhaus Festival and Prizes 2024

From April 10 to 13, the New European Bauhaus Festival (NEB) reunited designers, architects, policymakers, and citizens in Brussels to think imagine a more sustainable and inclusive future. The festival’s key attraction, the New European Bauhaus Prizes 2024, celebrated 20 exceptional projects that are already making this future a reality.

The NEB initiative is a response to growing environmental concerns and the need for citizen-centered urban development. It fosters collaboration, creativity, and sustainability to transform how we design and experience our living spaces.

The New European Bauhaus Festival, still young in its second year, has quickly become a must-attend event in Brussels’ bustling spring season.  Held from April 10th to 13th 2024, it offered a dynamic space for those working towards a more sustainable, inclusive, and aesthetically pleasing Europe. Interactive sessions, workshops, exhibitions, and artistic performances all contributed to the event’s success, showcasing the broad appeal of the NEB movement.

The prestigious New European Bauhaus Prizes 2024 ceremony, held on April 12th, was a central focus of the festival.  Marking the fourth year of the competition, it celebrated projects that exemplify the NEB’s core values.  20 exceptional initiatives, chosen from 49 finalists, were recognized for their positive impact on European communities.

The Prizes 2024 were awarded in four categories and two strands: one for established projects (the “New European Bauhaus Champions”) and one for promising initiatives from younger applicants (the “New European Bauhaus Rising Stars”). Winners were announced during the ceremony by Elisa Ferreira, Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, and Iliana Ivanova, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, in the presence of Vsevolod Chentsov, Ambassador of Ukraine to the European Union.
