Since 2008, REGIOSTARS has recognised particularly excellent EU-funded projects that show the impact and inclusiveness of regional development. The winning projects will get Europe-wide visibility through our communication channels and will be involved in follow up activities to promote projects in their region.

This year there are two projects with Irish involvement

Waterside Shared Village Peace Programme (Ireland-United Kingdom)

The Waterside Shared Village is a vibrant, EU-funded community hub in Derry/Londonderry that transformed a former ‘interface’ area into a shared space for increasing community connections. It features state-of-the-art sports facilities and a community hub, encouraging reconciliation and cross-community activity between Irish Street and Top of the Hill. In short, “Waterside Shared Village: where communities connect and sport unites, bringing people together at the heart of the Waterside.”  Project website

AtlanticOnBike – EuroVelo1 – Interreg Atlantic Area (France, Norway, UK (Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and South-West), Ireland, Belgium, Spain and Portugal)

AtlanticOnBike develops and promotes sustainable tourism along one of the Europe’s longest and most spectacular cycle routes: EuroVelo 1 – Atlantic Coast Route. Stretching from Norway’s North Cape to Portugal’s Algarve, it connects regions through a continuous and safe cycling corridor, promoting low-carbon travel, linking rural, coastal and urban areas, and strengthening cross-border mobility and cohesion across Europe, into a shared mobility network.

Voting runs until 14 October 2026 at midday (Brussels time). Winners – including the People’s Choice Award- will be revealed at the REGIOSTARS Awards Ceremony 2026, the closing event of the European Week of Regions and Cities. Upon a decision by a jury, other winners will be awarded in the five main categories (A Competitive and Smart Europe, a Green Europe, a Connected Europe, a Social and Inclusive Europe, a Europe Closer to the Citizens).
