The Irish Planning Institute’s (IPI) Annual Conference was held in Waterford last week with the Theatre Royal and Tower Hotel hosting the three-day event in the city. The theme of the conference was Planning for Smart, Sustainable and Competitive Regions and Cities.
The conference kicked off on Wednesday with a welcome reception in Waterford City Hall with Gavin Lawlor MIPI, President of the Irish Planning Institute and Cllr. Joe Conway, Mayor of the City and County of Waterford.
Over the following days, information sessions and panel discussions were held on topics including Delivering Competitive Regions and Cities, and Delivering Sustainability. Kevin Lynch MIPI, of the Southern Regional Assembly gave an insightful presentation during Thursday’s session Delivering Innovative and Smart Regions and Cities, with a focus on the Southern Region.
The conference concluded on Friday with a walking tour of Waterford City with experts highlighting projects relating to vacancy and dereliction, and Urban Regeneration. An update was also provided on the ongoing work of Waterford’s North Quays.
